Im new to skateboarding and some of my skater friends say the best thing is to get hurt so you know what not to do. Well Ive gotten to that stage but I need help to keep the board rolling for longer from the push off point any suggestions? Other than asking my skater friends?
you cant just push yourself once and expect to roll. while you are moving you need to take your back foot back off your skate again and push a second time and a third time and a forth. and keep pushing yourself along. when you are going at a comfortable pace you then put your foot back on your skateboard and sore until you are going slow again and then repeat. riding a skateboard is the easiest thing to do if you can't master that, you will probably have a lot of trouble learning tricks.
if you do fall try and land on your ass or other more padded parts of your body. the last thing you want is to land on your elbows or knees or your face. put your hands out to break your falls. i try to land on my side if i can. because i find this to be a much more "comfortable" fall. as funny as it sounds there are more comfortable falls. ive landed on my elbows and my knees before and it hurts. another thing i would like to add is that i have never broken a bone in my life and im 22. so i have a pretty good idea that what im saying is pretty good advice.
anyway i hope this helps you. once you feel you have figured out how to ride decently well, you should try working on your ollie.
