skateboard gear!!?!?!?

i wanted to learn how to skateboard and my dad gave me a giftcard for amazon
but, considering i’ve always wanted to but never actually did learn about skateboarding i don’t know where to start
any suggestions on books, gear, shoes??
My brother is a skateboarder so he is going to write this answer.
For shoes, I would go with DC’s and/or Vans.
For gear, I just use a helmet but if your starting out and are klutzy use knee pads and elbow pads.
For books, just go to the library and ask for skateboarding books. Also just go on YouTube and type in ‘How To Skateboard’.
