Un video lleno de la “caballeria” en Houston, Tejas.

a very small group of skateboarders and some powerful entrepenuers (did i spell that right?) of houston have decided that 20” bicycles aren’t allowed in to “lee and joe’s” skate park.

this is ridiculous, and medieval.

it seems no one did there homework when the time came to make the policy because the facts of the matter are that there are too many bmx bike companies producing plastic products (namely pegs and pedals) that prevent any reason for complaints about a 20 inch presence.

make us wear plastic, please.

I have yet to see plastic skateboard trucks (fyi- “studies” have shown that skate trucks cause just as much-if not more-glacial damage to ledges, etc).

By the way, I have skater friends. And chances are, my BMX friends that skate, are better than you.

3/28/08: Margaritas, fake mustaches, 80s chic, skulls-a-plenty and skate deck art for a good cause.

For three years now, Maven has been been teaming up with local artists and presenting different themed Skate Deck Art Benefits. This year they raised money for the much needed redesign of the Burlington Skatepark.

In March, funds were approved for a new skatepark as part of the Moran Redevelopment Project. The money raised from Friday’s silent auction of the skate decks will be used to pay for blueprints for a new and improved concrete park.

We talked to skateboarders and deck artists about their work and why they risk broken bones and fractured bits for the pleasure of skateboarding. And hey, what is that bone jutting out of your neck Big Tim!?

You may recognize some local JDK artists such as Creative Director and Owner Michael Jager and Sachie Tani of the blog My Cat Goma.

Warning: this video has a LOT of talking, though there is a considerable chunk of skateboarding in it. In this video, I acquaint myself with some 54mm wheels from Better Skateboarding:

Better Skateboarding Wheels claim to be resistant to flatspots, as well as being really fast. In this clip, I go over a set of 54mm wheels (I covered 49′s in part 1) that they sent me, and I offer up some footage of the type of skating I did on them for a few weeks… sliding, reverting, and other things that make your wheels go *skrrrrtttkt*.

All in all, I like the wheels… unfortunately, I had to cut the actual skating down on this part because I sprained my ankle off camera. Grrrr.
